Berry farmers across the Valley fought unseasonable cold Monday night, trying to protect their crops from frost.

Gary Hilbert of Hilbert's Pick-Your-Own-Strawberries in Spring Creek got up at 4 a.m. to save his berries from the cold.

He said temperatures dropped below 30 degrees Fahrenheit. He drenched his crops in water for four hours because ice insulates the berries from the cold.

"They survived from what I can see now," says Hilbert.

Hilbert expects the same thing to happen Tuesday night.
