The Greenbrier's new owner says he's trying to decide where to build a $20 million casino at the historic southern West Virginia resort.
Jim Justice bought the resort out of bankruptcy in early May. He says he's considering an area near the hotel's west terrace for the 50,000-square-foot Monte Carlo-inspired casino.
Justice says gambling is part of his plan to return the resort, which he bought for $20.1 million, to profitability. He's also counting on getting back the fifth Mobile Travel Guide star the resort lost in 2000, in part by spending heavily on the resort and more staff.
Voters approved limited gambling for resort guests only last fall. A portion of gambling revenue would be set aside to pay for employee benefits.
