Gov. Tim Kaine responded to the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor Tuesday morning on a Washington D.C. radio show.
During the show, he said, "I think the demonstrated track record of success is going to carry the day for this nominee."
However, Kaine also acknowledged the sharp criticism of Sotomayor, saying there is going to be a vigorous discussion. Critics agree.
"Obviously this judge needs to go through the confirmation process," says former Bush administration Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. "There are some questions and concerns raised in certain quarters about her judicial philosophy but that's what the confirmation process is all about."
Judicial Confirmation Network, a conservative group, says Sotomayor is a liberal, activist judge.
