Urban Exchange on East Market Street may not be selling condos anymore after a recent decision to lease all 194 condos, but more condos in downtown Harrisonburg are in the works.

The original plan was to lease about half of the spaces and sell the others spaces, but the owners say more people have been interested in leasing, not buying, so the company changed its mind.

Urban Exchange marketing official Scott Rogers says the developer plans to work on more condominiums in downtown Harrisonburg in the near future.

Urban Exchange plans on developing two buildings in downtown that will house somewhere between 15 and 25 condos. One set of condos will be in an existing building that will be renovated, and the others will be in a newly erected building on an empty parcel.

Rogers wouldn't say where the two projects would be located.

Buyers interested in condos at Urban Exchange were turned away from ownership with the recent leasing decision. Rogers hopes many of those buyers will be part of a focus group to help design the two new condominium projects.

Urban Exchange is currently seeking potential condo owners to join the focus group that will start meeting later this year.

Director of the Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance, Eddie Bumbaugh, is encouraged by the condominium projects. He says condo owners in downtown Harrisonburg are investing in downtown Harrisonburg.
