With smoke detectors are going off among the pieces of wood, people on pond Avenue in Stanley work to recover from Wednesday night's strong storms, including taking pictures of the damage.
County officials say a family of three was in a house when winds lifted the mobile home and flew it about 75 feet.
Gener Stewart, the emergency services coordinator for the Town of Stanley, says it's amazing that all three people in the house are alive, let alone only suffered minor injuries.
The National Weather Service is assessing the damage to determine if it was done by a tornado.
The Pond Avenue trailer also damaged an auto body business next door. Business owner Brent Roudabush says he feels blessed because the things can be replaced while lives cannot.
Damage from the home and other Stanley locations is estimated at about $300,000, Including a Virginia Department of Transportation building that may have up to $50,000 worth of damage.
Page County VDOT Supervisor Ralph Mowry says, "Wind just got in there and lifted the roof off of it."
He compares the wood ripped by the storm to toothpicks. He says VDOT will spend the next few days clearing debris off the roads in Page County and working on the damaged building.
The Wednesday storm seemed familiar to some Page County residents. Bobby Turner says this year's storm is very similar to a storm that passed through Stanley in June 2008. However, he says this year's damage is far worse.
