Weather caused a lot of problems for one Mount Crawford family Tuesday morning.

Rain fell and puddles gathered in front of a home on the 3000 block of Cross Keys Road. Fire trucks and ambulances line the street after what the Snuffin family calls a lightning strike on their home.

Fire officials at the scene say significant damage was done to the attic.

Barbie Snuffin says it was her daughter who figured out what was going on.

She says, "We went in one room she said 'It smells in here, it smells funny.' And at that time I ran upstairs with the flashlight and that's when I saw smoke billowing out of the attic and we grabbed all the animals all the kids and ran outside and called 911."

When asked if she thought it was a lightning strike, Snuffin responded emphatically.

She states, "Oh yeah, definitely lightning, absolutely."

Rockingham Fire and Rescue says the investigation into the fire will continue for the next few days.
