A federal indictment accuses a former Logan County delegate of bribery, vote buying and running illegal gambling rings in West Virginia and Kentucky.

A federal indictment accuses a former Logan County delegate of bribery, vote buying and running illegal gambling rings in West Virginia and Kentucky.

Democrat Joe C. Ferrell was charged in a 48-count indictment unsealed Monday in U.S. District Court in Huntington. The charges include racketeering, mail fraud, bribery, and failing to register gambling devices and failure to pay employment taxes.

The 62-year-old Chapmanville resident operates a video lottery machine leasing business, Southern Amusement Co. Federal agents raided the business in June 2005. He did not seek re-election to the House of Delegates in 2006.
