Grottoes and Timberville police departments now have the Locator. It helps law enforcement by quickly collecting and sending out descriptive information about a child or their abductor.
A picture is scanned into the system and posters can be immediately sent out to other agencies or printed for officers.
Police say when it comes to this type of case, time is critical.
"If you don't find that child in the first three hours, you'll have a major investigation on you hands. With the Locator, we hope to cut that time down," said Chief C. K. Lawhorne.
Chief Lawhorne says he believes there have been several cases of missing children in the area where this software has helped.
The software can also be used for missing adults, wanted persons and crime alerts.
