A man is behind bars for allegedly trying to kill three people in Waynesboro. Timothy Lee Rankin is being held without bond on three counts of attempted murder and one count of arson. Police say the 48-year-old set a trailer on fire late Monday night.
Sandra Maybush says she woke up around one o'clock Tuesday morning to her trailer filled with smoke. She says her x-husband set her trailer on fire from underneath her bedroom, but Maybush says, she wasn't sleeping in her bedroom that night. "He called me said don't mess with me, he knew people and I'd be sorry," says Maybush. That call, Maybush says, came from her x-husband Timothy Rankin, just hours before her trailer was allegedly set on fire. "Seven til one, I'm running out of the house, my trailer's on fire," says Maybush.
Maybush says she and Rankin were married for about five years, then he was charged with bigamy and their marriage was annulled. Her first thought the night she woke up with a smoke filled home was, "I thought somebody was trying to kill me," says Maybush. Maybush says the fire started on the side of her trailer where her bedroom is, but that night she was sleeping on the couch.
When she woke up, she got her 16-year-old daughter, her handicap brother, who she takes care of, and all of her animals out of the trailer. While Maybush is now without a home she says she has a lot to be thankful for. "I'm just happy to be alive, I'm happy to have my brother and I'm happy to have my daughter," says Maybush.
Maybush says she's thankful her x-husband is now behind bars so she can pick up the pieces and move on with her life. The Red Cross is currently providing shelter for Maybush, her daughter, and her brother.
