In an urban setting, plants and factories are important as they create jobs and help the local economy. However, so does nature.
The Waynesboro Green Way Project will be a natural escape from the daily grind, and will help with the area's economic advancement.
The Waynesboro Green Way would stretch about a mile along the South River, through the city, from Wayne Avenue to Constitution Park.
Through the green ways, there could be stops for bike rentals, smaller restaurants, and kiosks with information about the area sponsored by other local businesses and organizations.
Waynesboro Assistant City Manager Jim Shaw says, "I think the overall benefits tend to be that it provides recreational opportunities for citizens. It provides transportation access from key points to destinations. It provides environmental benefits in conserving habitat along the river."
Shaw can't put a specific time table on the completion of the project, although he does say their drawings are about 35 percent complete and are being reviewed by the Virgina Department of Transportation, since some of the funding is coming from VDOT.
