There are talks about bringing a new fire department to one part of Augusta County, and some Riverheads residents say it's long overdue.

Carol Ingoglia has lived in her Greenville home for three and a half years. While she loves the area, she says there are drawbacks to living in that part of the county.

Ingoglia says, "There would be a lot of concern if there would be an emergency in a house with four children."

The Stuarts Draft and Middlebrook Volunteer Fire Departments are what residents like Ingoglia rely on in the town.

However, both are more than ten miles away, and Ingoglia says she would feel more comfortable taking her family's safety into her own hands.

She adds, "It's crazy but the idea of dialing 911 and hoping someone shows up in time to provide the emergency service for someone in crisis needs. There's just no way they're going to make it this far."

She says she's talked with neighbors about the problem but isn't sure anything can be done about it.

Ingoglia says, "As far as discussing having a fire department, I think everyone has just given up hope on that idea."

That hope may soon be restored. Augusta County supervisors are in talks about the possibility of a new fire department in the Riverheads district.

Ingoglia says, "It would be excellent. It would be the opportunity to know we have emergency vehicles available in case there is a problem."

While it's still in the preliminary stages, Ingoglia says she's glad to know it's on their radar.

She says, "I think it definitely puts us at ease because at least it let's us know they realize there is a problem."

Supervisors will be holding a public meeting to get input on the fire station June 2 at 7 p.m. in the Riverheads High School auditorium.
