Strayer University is opening its first West Virginia campus.

The Washington, D.C.-based university will hold a grand opening Wednesday for its new campus in Scott Depot.

President Sondra F. Stallard is a West Virginia native whose family lives in the Teays Valley area. Stallard says the university decided to open a campus in the state because there's a demand for the type of programs it offers.

Stayer's programs, including online courses, are aimed working adults and nontraditional students. Its programs include business, education, information systems and public administration.

Strayer has 67 campuses in 15 states.
