Newly appointed state G-O-P chairman Ed Gillespie is urging the party's moderates and conservatives to come together to rebuild the party.
Gillespie cited Ronald Reagan, saying the former president was right when he said people who agree with each other 80 percent of the time are friends -- not enemies.
He warned that the party's often bitter divisions will do further harm if they are not reconciled.
Senator George Allen also spoke today at the party's annual December gathering.
Republicans welcomed Allen and his wife, Susan, with a loud and lengthy ovation.
It was Allen's first public appearance since last month's loss to Democrat Jim Webb.
The senator spoke at times with sorrow as he called out names and pointed out faces of long-time supporters in the crowd.
