This is the second murder on the same street in nearly three months. The Frederick County Sheriff's Office says it has a person of interest for a murder that happened in September. But no one for the murder that happened a few days ago. Every morning Barbara McGuinness looks out her kitchen window. But Friday morning was different. "And I saw that everything was roped off and I knew something pretty bad had happened," says Barbara McGuinness.
McGuinness says she didn't hear any gunshots that night.
"Usually there's a train that goes through approximately within that time frame," says McGuinness.
McGuinness says even though a murder happened right next door, she isn't afraid.
"We lock our doors; that's just common sense," says McGuinness. "But no I'm not afraid."
After two murders on Stephenson Road in a little over a month, residents are taking caution. They’re making sure they keep their doors locked at night but some are going to extremes.
"Yeah, my girlfriend actually put the couch in front of the front door," says Andy Sipes.
Andy Sipes knew Wayne Hedrick. And he couldn't believe the news.
"Shock," says Sipes. "I couldn't believe it, it's like, why wouldn't anyone want to do that to him. I've never even seen him upset. He's real easy going, real friendly."
Sipes says he still feels uneasy that the police haven't found a suspect in Hedrick's murder. Sipes says the first murder on Stephenson Road in September didn't bother him.
"But now that it's this close, it makes me even more alarmed that you know, hey, it could be me next time," says Sipes.
This is the seventh murder this year for Frederick County. The Sheriff's Office tells me there were no murders last year in the county. Police are investigating both murders individually and tells TV-3 right now the two are not related.
