The next Election Day is a little ways off, but Rockingham County is already re-vamping some of its voting locations. The state board is requiring all polling places to be accessible for the physically challenged.
Out of the 27 polling locations in Rockingham County, nearly 20 had to have changes made to meet state requirements. The deadline for the project is January 1.
"Some of those were pouring concrete paths to allow a person to park to get out of the vehicle to be able to roll a wheel chair or anything, easily made access to the building that they were going to vote in," says Rockingham Maintenance Supervisor Teddy Hensley.
The county registrar says upgrades are expected to be completed by the end of this month.
