Virginia State Police say nearly five-thousand-500 motorists were arrested ticketed during its fourth crackdown this year on speeders.
The crackdown took place last Thursday and Friday on Interstates 81 and 95. Police say the four operations this year resulted in more than 26-thousand summonses, traffic arrests and criminal arrests on the two highways.
In the latest operation, police arrested or ticketed more than 27-hunrded motorists were arrested or ticketed for speeding and nearly 600 for reckless driving.
The majority of the remaining tickets were for equipment violations. They also charged six motorists with drunken driving and made 62 arrests on drug and felony charges.
Police also issued tickets for 262 seat belt violations.
