A Hampton woman who was baby-sitting a five-month-old girl who was strangled by a car seat's chest strap has been charged with the infant's death.

Tamecca Sheri Clay was arrested at her home Wednesday and charged with felony child neglect.

It could not immediately be determined Wednesday night whether the 37-year-old Clay has a lawyer.

According to police, Clay was baby-sitting the child in February, and left the girl in a car seat on the floor of Clay's home. When Clay returned to the room, one of the straps was across the child's throat. Clay called paramedics, but the child was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The identity of the infant has not been released.
