The West Virginia Turnpike's general manager says a missed public notice deadline is the reason a vote to increase tolls was postponed until July 1.

The Parkways, Economic Development and Tourism Authority was to vote on the increase next week, but missed the filing deadline by one day.

Greg Barr said the authority overlooked that state offices would be closed Friday for West Virginia Day.

The authority wants to increase tolls for passenger vehicles from $1.25 to $2 and for large trucks from $6.27 from $4.25. It's taking care to comply with public notice requirements after a judge tossed out its 2006 vote to increase tolls.

The judge ruled the authority had failed to give the public proper notice of its actions.
