The state required minimum for auto insurance may not be enough to cover the costs of some accidents.

Everyone in Virginia is required to carry uninsured/under-insured motorist coverage, which kicks in when the under-insured or uninsured driver's coverage runs out.

But, insurance agents say getting more insurance for yourself or adding umbrella coverage may also be a good idea considering how many Virginia drivers choose to insure themselves only with the minimum or try to get away with having no insurance at all.
