The Army wants to expand housing at Fort Lee to accommodate an influx of soldiers who will be training at the new Army Logistics University.

The Army has approved building a 1,000-room lodging facility but funding may depend on Congress.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the logistics school is set for July 2.

Fort Lee garrison commander Col. Michael Morrow says the school will have 1,800 students in July and 2,300 students at full capacity by July 2011.

Morrow says the lodging facility is designed to house a transient soldier population. Civilian employees sent to Fort Lee for training or other functions that last less than six months also may be housed there.
