Deputies in Rockingham County are reporting an alleged scam that has cost some residents thousands of dollars, and they say they have found the man responsible.

Deputies say the alleged scammer was offering to seal people's driveways, but when the bill came due, he asked for much more than he originally quoted and did a worse job than he promised. Several reports of the scam came from Elkton and McGaheysville this month.

Deputies say Jeffrey Adams Grady of Front Royal is responsible for at least three of the scams. They say he overcharged victims by a total of $13,300. Deputies have a warrant for Grady's arrest.

Staunton Police are investigating two cases of hit-and-run. Police say a car hit a pole on Bridge Street, then drove away Tuesday morning. Some of the passengers in that case have been charged with underage possession of alcohol, but the driver has not been identified.

Tuesday night, a vehicle hit a parked car on Frederick Street, then drove away.

Deputies in Shenandoah County say someone broke into a church in Basye and stole some electronic sound equipment. The break-in was reported Sunday.

Harrisonburg Police report that someone broke into a home on Devon Lane Thursday morning and took several hundred dollars. The door of the home was left unlocked.

Deputies in Augusta County report that a burglar broke into a shed in Grottoes and stole some baseball catcher's equipment and several baseballs June 9.

If you have any information about these cases, please call your local police department or sheriff's office.

WHSV Poll
A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
