Isabel Hit Military Hard

(Washington-AP)
Senator John Warner says he'll ask Congress
week to spend half-a-(B) billion dollars on cleaning up Hurricane
Isabel's damage to military bases.

The money would go to bases mostly in Virginia, but also in
Maryland North Carolina.

Officials at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton estimate that the
base has more than 200 (m) million dollars in damage. At nearby
Fort Monroe, there's about 87 (m) million dollars in damage, much
of it from the flooding that occurred when a seawall and dam broke.

Warner, a Virginia Republican, says he'll submit an amendment
next week to add the 500 (m) million dollars to the 87 (B) billion
dollars President Bush wants for the rebuilding of Iraq.

Warner says he's never seen so much damage in Virginia, in the
25 years he's been senator.
