Members of the horse racing industry from around the country plan to meet this week in Shepherdstown to discuss legal issues at tracks, growth in slots and other matters.
The National Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association will meet Tuesday through Friday at a Shepherdstown hotel.
Randy Funkhouser, president of the Charles Town association, says this is the first event of its kind to be held locally. There are about 30 local associations within the national group, and Funkhouser expects representatives from across the country.
One of the main topics of discussion will be the position of horsemen at racetracks where slot machines, table games and other forms of gambling have been introduced.
