Staunton's Gypsy Hill Park welcomed one of the Virginia National Guard's most "instrumental" units Monday night.
The Roanoke-based 29th Army Band joined the Stonewall Brigade Band to play to a large audience.
The army band and Stonewall Brigade were both parts of the 29th Infantry Division years ago, but have since been reorganized.
Since May, the 29th Army Band has been performing all over the state, and members say they enjoy playing alongside civilian musicians.
Acting commander and 1st Sgt. Fred Lewis says, "This gives us a chance for us to put a face on the military. We will be getting up and going out and greeting the audience one-on-one after the performance, so this gives folks in the communities that don't normally have a soldier to talk to, one right there in front of them."
The band will travel to Fort Bragg in North Carolina Tuesday and wrap up its tour in Danville and Blacksburg July 3 and 4.
