Bird in WV Tests Positive for West Nile

Hancock County health officials are asking the public to report any sick or dead birds they find after a starling tested positive for the West Nile virus.

Hancock County health officials are asking the public to report any sick or dead birds they find after a starling tested positive for the West Nile virus.

The Hancock County Health Department says the starling was collected from Weirton Heights.

West Nile is a mosquito-borne disease that causes encephalitis, or swelling of the brain. Mosquitoes often breed in stagnant water.
