After months of planning and preparation, a new apartment and condo development is open and ready for tenants.

With nearly 12,000 square feet of retail space, builders hope Urban Exchange will become a retail hub for the City of Harrisonburg.

It took several hundred people and 17 months to get the east wing of the building built and ready for tenants to move in Wednesday.

The leasing office opened its doors at Noon for residents who were ready to check in.

Marketing Director and Associate Broker Scott Rogers says the first floor retail space has not been filled yet. There are perspective renters, but no leases have been signed.

Residents with July 1 leases will be able to check in until 5 p.m. Wednesday
