Seniors in Augusta County took advantage of an opportunity to grab some free food. Wednesday kicked off the Senior Farmer's Market Nutrition Program.

Enrolled seniors used coupons at farmers markets across the Valley, including one at the Augusta County Government Center in Verona.

Seniors used their $40 coupon to gather fresh fruits and vegetables, and they got a little time to socialize as well.

Effie Sweet says, "I love it. I love senior citizens and I love coming over here to visit and get food."

The program is in it's fifth year and is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Seventeen markets across the Valley, including ones in Waynesboro, Augusta County and Staunton, are participating in the program.
