After making the largest seizure of psychedelic mushrooms in Waynesboro history, police have also arrested a man.

Officers seized 107 mason jars containing several mushrooms each from an apartment on New Hope Road.

A complaint from another resident led police to the apartment.

Officers found that one bedroom was being used exclusively as a growing operation for the mushrooms, equipped with pots and soil, thermostats and scales.

Police say the street value of the mushrooms has not been determined.

"Normally, our interaction with this drug has been through individuals carrying it on them, but never anyone actively manufacturing it. So it was a pretty significant find for us," adds Sgt. Brian Edwards.

Thirty-one-year-old Felix Christopher Gutierrez was arrested for the possession of a Schedule I controlled substance with intent to distribute.

He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana.

If found guilty on the charges, he faces up to 41 years in prison and/or a $500,000 fine.
