Prosecutors say a New Jersey woman convicted of killing and dismembering her husband should not get a new trial.

In legal papers filed Thursday with the state Appellate Division, the Attorney General's Office disputes claims by Melanie McGuire's lawyers that a gun she bought before her husband was killed could not have been the murder weapon.

The defense contends that ballistics information from the weapon's manufacturer is inconsistent with markings on bullets found in the victim's body.

McGuire, of Woodbridge, was sentenced to life in prison after a jury convicted her of the 2004 murder. William McGuire's remains were found in three suitcases in the Chesapeake Bay near Norfolk, Virginia.
