The economy isn't standing in the way of some Valley residents buying fireworks.
Fireworks vendors in Staunton say they've seen a significant increase in fireworks sales since last year.
They say many people are staying home for the Fourth of July holiday this year, which means packed tents and sold out products for vendors.
Buyers say the slowing economy wasn't enough to stop them from getting their holiday thrills.
Vendor Sissy Holland says, "Fireworks are always fun. A lot of noise and just something, like I said, you can do together."
Holland says July 3 is typically when the crowds come in, but she also says Thursday was the busiest day they've had in five years.
