A young man has lost his life in a car crash in Page County.

State Police say the crash happened on Route 340, near the intersection with Anne Street, just south of the town of Shenandoah.

Police say the driver swerved off the roadway and ran into some trees, down an embankment.

The driver, 18-year-old Casey Ashton Amos of Stanley, was killed. State Police say a female passenger, who is a juvenile, was injured and taken to the hospital.

Police say both people in the vehicle were wearing seat belts.

I taught Casey in 9th grade. He was in a class full of girls & I could count on him to inject humor in the air when the atmosphere got tense. He was a wonderful student always asking the "why" questions. Even when he got the Algebra award that year from me he wanted to know why! During the Spring Fling program of his Senior year, he was handing out programs dressed in a WWII army uniform & I stopped and chatted. So grown up & still so sweet! After graduation, I gave him a big hug as he came down the line formed by the staff at PCHS. I was happy to hear of the huge scholarship he had received from Bridgewater College & I let him know that I expected him to be tops in his math classes. I flew into Charleottesville 10:00PM on Thursday 7/9 & learned from my inlaws that one of our students had died in a car wreck that Monday. As we drove past PCHS, I saw the fence & based on the details they provided, I realized that it was Casey...he was so special as all of the postings stated. RIP
