The Richmond Police Department says it has arrested a daycare worker in connection with the death of a 13-month-old child who was left unattended in a van for several hours.

Police said Monday that 23-year-old Richmond resident Keishawn L. Whitfield will be charged with felony child neglect and may face other charges. A telephone listing for Whitfield, who is in custody, could not be located.

Police say Whitfield discovered the child after returning to a van outside the daycare about 4:30 p.m.

Police say the child's body has been sent to the medical examiner to determine the cause of death.
