The man who police say admitted to killing his ex-girlfriend has not yet been charged for the murder.

A search warrant states Justin Slater confessed to shooting and killing Kayleigh Plamondon June 9 and then taking her body to a house in Hardy County, West Virginia.

Clarke County Sheriff Tony Roper says the county is in no hurry to charge Slater in the murder, because Slater is already behind bars at the regional jail for allegedly murdering his brother, Gregory Scott Slater Jr.

Clarke County Commonwealth's Attorney Suzanne Perka will make the final decision on what charges he will face in the county.

Roper says, "I would like to reassure people that these are not the kinds of things that slip through the cracks. Suni Perka will take the measures necessary to make sure that justice is served here in Clarke County."

Roper also says it is fair to make the assumption that Slater will be charged for murdering Plamondon.

Slater is being held without bond for first degree murder charges related to his brother's death.
