Food Co-op Scales Back Proposal
Harrisonburg, Va. The Friendly City Food Co-op is working to secure funding for its proposed grocery store downtown, including changing the store's proposed size.

Following the opening of Urban Exchange, several new residents to downtown are looking for a grocery store to open in the area.
The Friendly City Food Co-op is working to get money from a bank to do just that this fall.
In order to make the project look more viable, the groups has scaled down plans for the size of the store. It's expected to be about 6,000 square feet as opposed to the 10,000 square feet that was originally planned.
"It will also be good for all property owners downtown because when downtown becomes more livable, property values go up. And the co-op will be a big part of that," says Deb Rhizal, the co-op's new outreach coordinator.
So far, more than 500 people have bought into the co-op .
