State officials are planning a summit at community colleges across Virginia to seek solutions from the public on ways to reduce poverty.

The "Conversations on Poverty" meetings are scheduled July 18 from 10 a.m. to noon at 25 campuses, including Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave.

The Virginia Cooperative Extension says participants are encouraged to offer strategies for the state's Poverty Reduction Task Force and local and state officials.

Virginia Department of Social Services Commissioner Anthony Conyers Jr. says his agency is eager to hear recommendations from the public and community leaders.
