Churchville American troops continue to fight overseas, and whether you know someone fighting or not, one Valley couple is passionate in their belief that Americans should support our troops.

A Churchville couple sent care packages to troops they don't even know over in Iraq. The Rankins started a campaign two years ago called "From the Hearts" because it came from the hearts of the people in the Shenandoah Valley.
The campaign just ended a couple of weeks ago, and one of the marines that received the packages stopped by to show how much he appreciated their support. "So it all kind of started with us finding out that there's military personnel over there that weren't receiving things and in our hearts went out because we wanted to do something to make sure that those guys had a little something from home," says Dianne Rankin, the co-owner of T-Bone Tooters.
That's when the owners of T-Bone Tooters Restaurant in Churchville adopted 160 soldiers overseas to send packages to, and David Provencal was one of them. "I thought it might have been a one time deal, you know, where they would send it to us and say 'hey thanks for all of your support over there in the gulf, and then it seemed like every 15 days I was getting 15-20 additional boxes,"
Each and every week, the Rankins sent care packages to Iraq...Each time spending about $200 just to mail the boxes. "The boxes just started showing up and they were full of food, snacks, canned goods, toys, anything you could possibly think of, like duck tape...And the duck tape was heaven sent!" says Provencal.
To show his appreciation, David gave the Rankins a flag. A flag made special in that it was flown during an operation in Iraq. Over the last two years, the Rankins have gotten accustomed to receiving calls from strangers. Strangers in uniform, overseas and away from their home, thanking them for their support.
"From gentleman we don't know, and that's the first thing they said, is just to thank you so much because that has meant so much to them and it has lifted their morals, you know, and it's made it all worth while," says Dianne Rankin.
Provencal can't thank the Rankins enough, "It's overwhelming," says Provencal. David Provencal will be going back to Iraq at the end of February. The Rankins don't know if they will be continuing this campaign because they say its extremely hard financially, but they tell me if there is a need, then they will find a way to come up with the money.
