One Republican Says Expects Sotomayor to Be Confirmed

Although Republican senators are continuing to raise questions about Sonia Sotomayor's impartiality, one Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee is predicting that she'll be confirmed.

Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina says that'll happen unless Sotomayor has what he calls a "complete meltdown."

Earlier, Democratic committee chairman Patrick Leahy described Sotomayor as a "judge for all Americans" who'd be a "justice for all Americans."

But Republican Jeff Sessions warned that he wouldn't vote for any nominee who thinks it's OK for a judge to let his or her background or sympathies to play a role in the outcome of a case.

Republicans continue to point to President Barack Obama's statement, from before he nominated Sotomayor, that he wanted a person of empathy on the high court.

And they're focusing again on her comment that a "wise Latina" might make better rulings than a white male who lacked the same life experience.
