The Waynesboro City Manager, Mike Hamp, is speaking out about the future of a controversial bridge mural located just outside the city.

Hamp says Waynesboro resident Ron Hiserman's hopes of repainting the 20-year-old mural are still a possibility.

Since the mural is located outside city lines, officials have to figure out what name to put on a permit that will be issued by the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The city hasn't ruled itself out yet, but Hamp says it wants to make sure it continues to follow all of the necessary precautions.

He adds, "I think there is still the possibility that we can have a successful resolution to the paperwork that is necessary to do this. But it has certainly be a challenge thus far though."

Hamp is in contact with Hiserman and says the city hopes to clear things up by next week.
