Neighbors React to Armed Robbery
Three suspected armed robbers who tied up two Harrisonburg men are still on the loose tonight. The robbery happened yesterday morning at Ashby Crossing on Devon Lane in Harrisonburg. Residents say they hope their complaints about safety will finally be heard by the apartment management.

"People are not really surprised that they're getting robbed here. It happens a lot," says Ashby Crossing resident Audrey Blum. She and other residents are worried about how violent the robbery was at their neighbor's apartment. Police say three men entered one of these units Thursday morning, tied up the residents, and stole their belongings. Blum says robberies are too common, and she's worried it might happen again.
"We're on the ground floor, so that's kind of scary. If they're armed, or anything, they can just smash the window and climb right in," Blum says.
Police say three men are responsible for the robbery. The apartment management sent an email to all of their residents, telling them about the robbery and asking them to be more cautious. Police say the suspects were able to get into the apartment, because the door was unlocked.
"We're usually pretty good about locking the doors, when everybody's ready to go to bed. So I guess we'll just continue to be on the safer side, because God knows we wouldn't want something like that happening to us," says Ashby Crossing resident Matt Boswell.
Others want the management company to do more to protect the people living in the complex.
"Maybe some security guards would be nice," says Blum. "Something to make us feel a little bit better. Everyone pays a good deal of money here."
This incident is just the latest to target areas where JMU students live. Police say 17 student apartments were burglarized over winter break.
