Harrisonburg Police Investigate Pedestrian Hit By Car

Around 9:15 p.m. Saturday, the Harrisonburg Police Department responded to the intersection of Third Street and Virginia Avenue for the report of an accident.

Around 9:15 p.m. Saturday, the Harrisonburg Police Department responded to the intersection of Third Street and Virginia Avenue for the report of an accident.

Officers discovered a woman had been struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Virginia Avenue. It appears the woman was walking along Third Street attempting to cross Virginia Avenue.

The victim was transported to Rockingham Memorial Hospital and then taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition with life threatening injuries.

“This is certainly a tragic accident that happened in our community and our thoughts are with the victim’s family,” says Mary-Hope Gangwer, HPD’s Public Information Officer and Crime Analyst.

No charges have been filed at this time. The accident is still under investigation.

This was such a terrible accident that happened to a wonderful person. She has many great friends and family members who are praying for a speedy, complete recovery.
