Charles Town Races & Slots says it's time to try again. The casino operator will soon ask Jefferson County to schedule a December 5 referendum on table games.

Officials with parent company Penn National Gaming Inc. announced their intentions Thursday to the Jefferson County Commission. But the official written request that starts a 90-day clock ticking won't come until September.

The December date falls after a November 7 county zoning referendum, but well before Christmas.

Track officials worried that confusion over who can vote on the zoning ordinance might hurt their odds.

Penn National executive John Finamore says the company also carefully considered things like Thanksgiving travel and big football game weekends before settling on the date.
