Investigating Deadly Crash in Fluvanna County

Virginia State Police continue to investigate a single-vehicle crash near Lake Monticello that killed one teen and injured three others.

The crash happened Thursday night on Route 636 in Fluvanna County.

Troopers say the car ran off the road, hit a fence, several mailboxes and two trees before it came to a stop on the shoulder.

A passenger in the backseat, 14-year-old Caitlin Conn, died at the scene.

The three other people in the car, 18-year-old Matthew Rigsby, 15-year-old Morgan Winter, and 15-year-old Dylan Saylor, were airlifted to the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Their injuries are considered life threatening.

A preliminary investigation shows speed appears to be a factor and only one person in the car, the driver, was wearing a seat belt. Charges are pending.
