Santa's elves aren't the only people busier than usual this week.

UPS says Dec. 23 is its busiest shipping day of the year. More than four million packages will be shipped by flight, twice as many as on an average day.

And Tuesday was also a busy day for the UPS ground delivery staff, as trucks were full of boxes headed for homes just in time for Christmas.

And delivery person Tim Randolph says playing Santa's helper is just part of the job.

"It is the holidays, and everyone expects to get their packages, and so that's what we're out here for, to get it all done," he said.

Randolph says on a typical day, he makes about 100 stops. On Tuesday he expected to make more than 160.

FedEx says Dec. 22 is usually its busiest day. The company expected to ship more than 3.9 million packages.
