Whether customers were taking advantage of the after Christmas sales, or returning some unwanted gifts, today is yet another busy December day for retailers. For Sally Dentinger, who lives in Florida, the holidays are time to come home to Virginia and also shop.
"I'm taking advantage of all these sales. I've gotten some really really good bargains," she says. She's not the only one. Although, retailers held off on deep discounts early in the shopping season, Valley residents took advantage of the after Christmas sales.
For Sam Huff, who is shopping with her daughter, who is a college student, its all about saving money.
"I bought all kinds of clothes, tons of after Christmas sale clothes, we got gift cards and they put some really good sales on," she says.
And, Friday was also the day for returns. Kim Pickett says she got the wrong size shoes for her dad. Janet Ewing is retiring items that didn’t fit or someone didn’t like. Some of the biggest sale items this year were apparel, home furnishings, and electronics like DVD and CD players.
"We've had a lot of returns, mostly everybody that's returning something is also purchasing something along with returns, so its kinda even," says Eunice Bretthauer, Assistant Manager at Belk.
Retailers are asking shoppers to hold on to their receipts, so you get what you paid for, rather than the sale price.
