The governor is looking to the federal government for help.

Gov. Mark Warner is asking the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture to declare nine counties drought disaster areas.

The list includes Augusta, Rockingham and Page counties.

The declaration will allow area farmers to participate in federal emergency assistance programs.

Rockingham County administrator Bill O'Brien is confident the declaration will be made he just doesn't know when.
