When Pilgrim's Pride closes down its Harrisonburg Poultry plant, most of the workers and poultry operation will be moved to the Hinton plant on Route 33.
That means more trucks will be hauling birds to the plant, bringing the total to about 45 trucks. A Pilgrim's Pride spokesperson says all deliveries are done overnight, so traffic on Route 33 won't really be affected. Also, in the next five years, the plant's entrance will be moved and it's parking lot expanded.
"We feel the best thing to do is to be communicating to people. Our Hinton plant manager will be going out early next week to talk to the neighbors to kind of bring them up to date on what our plans are and what we have going on there, "says company spokesperson Ray Atkinson.
The Harrisonburg plant will be closed by October. Company officials say there are no plans to expand the Hinton plant.
