Jail Budget Cuts

Sheriff Don Farley is now making inmates pay for their own condiments. He says the department spends $13,000 a year on things like salt and pepper and ketchup. The jail won't make any money off the inmates, since each packet of ketchup will only cost a couple of cents, but the jail will save nearly $10,000.

"$10,000 is a drop in the bucket, but still, if someone were to come up to you on the street and say here's $10,000, I think we'd all have a smile on our face. I'm looking at this as a taxpayer savings," Farley said.

The jail's budget is more than $8.5 million. Farley says he's always looking for ways to cut it down.
