A house fire in Strasburg to which volunteers from five separate fire rescue crews responded Tuesday afternoon caused severe damage.
The fire occurred on Capon Road in Strasburg. Most of the second floor of the home was damaged. It took crews about one hour to extinguish the blaze.
According to Shenandoah County Fire and Rescue Public Information Officer John Collins, the front left room on the second floor had smoke and heat damage and another room had severe fire damage.
"Right about two o'clock this afternoon, this house had a fire. It's a two story house," explains Collins. "When units arrived from Strasburg Fire Department, there were flames coming out the back corner of the house. There was one person in the house when the fire started. He got out okay, along with three guinea pigs."
He also says the house is not habitable and the Shenandoah County chapter of the Red Cross is helping the displaced residents.
