The logistics of the proposed Rockingham County Meals Tax will be presented to the school board Tuesday night.

County Supervisor Joe Paxton will bring details of those restaurants that would be taxed if the referendum passes this November.

The meals tax would be a four-percent tax added to the bill at restaurants in Rockingham County, which would bring in about $600,000 the first year.

"The ongoing needs that we know we're going to have in public education here in Rockingham County. And it's going to make a difference just to have that financial support. And know that's one way that our patrons and our community members can contribute to the school system through eating out and choosing to eat out in our county," says Dr. Carol Fenn, Rockingham County Schools Superintendent.

Fenn says a meals tax is already in place in most of the cities and counties in the area.

As the former owner of The Dining Room restaurant in Staunton Virginia, I am not in favor of the proposal to mandate a 4% tax to assist in generating funds fof the short falls in government mismanagement. As an independant restaurant operator it is hard enough to generate profitable sales in an economy such as ours, as it is today, and now you are asking us to charge our only sourse of revenue, our customers, more money to enjoy an already dying adventure when times are tough & money is tight.I am a strong believer in supporting public or private education but believe there are better ways to generate needed funds...How about a higher taxes on soft drinks & junk foods.. it seems like a no brainer to me, the population gets healthier and you get the money you need..THINK ABOUT THAT...

A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
