A local bank has donated school supplies to an elementary school in the Valley.

The Clear Brook branch of BB&T donated $500 worth of supplies to Stonewall Elementary School.

The bank selected the school as part of its Lighthouse Community Project.

Bank representatives say the donation is especially important now, as teachers struggle to do more with less.

"The teachers see our children more than we do. If you're a working parent and you sleep at night, you only get a few hours a day with your children. Teachers have a huge impact," says Aleta Hoover, Stonewall BB&T Branch Manager.

Students and teachers got notebooks, pens, pencils, and items for arts and crafts.

The BB&T Lighthouse Project was designed by the bank's president and CEO.

WHSV Poll
A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
